  • 2 cloves garlic, diced
  • 8 oz tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¼ cup masa harina (white or yellow)
  • 15 oz kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 15 oz pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • (For Instant Pot version only) 14.5 oz diced tomatoes, with juice

Instructions

  1. In a large pot over medium heat, brown the ground beef until cooked through. Drain excess grease.
  2. Add diced garlic and tomato sauce; cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Stir in chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt, and cayenne pepper. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 1 hour.
  4. Combine masa harina with ½ cup of water in a small bowl until smooth; add to the chili to thicken.
  5. Mix in kidney and pinto beans; simmer for an additional 10 minutes.
  6. Serve hot with toppings like shredded cheese, sour cream, lime wedges, or tortilla chips.
