Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then incorporate vanilla extract and red food coloring.
  5. Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined; the dough will be soft and slightly sticky.
  6. Chill the dough covered in plastic wrap for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
  7. Scoop chilled dough into 1-inch balls using a cookie scoop and roll in powdered sugar to coat completely.
  8. Place on prepared baking sheets with about 2 inches between each ball and bake for 10–12 minutes until set but still soft in the center.
  9. Allow cooling on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
